Islam (which means 'Submission', in particular, submission to 'Allah') is the world's fastest-growing major religion and the second-biggest after Christianity.  Islam is estimated to have as many as 1.3 billion followers, 21% of the world's population, compared with possibly 2.1 billion Christians (33%) and 900 million Hindus (14%).   The United Kingdom is of course overwhelmingly Christian, with 70% of the population describing themselves thus.  However, discounting atheism, Islam is the second biggest religion in the United Kingdom, with some 1.6 million adherents, forming almost 2.7% of the population.  The Muslim population is heavily concentrated around the M1 corridor from London to Leeds and Manchester in England and in the far south east in Wales and is growing by conversion, immigration and by means of a higher birth-rate than other groups. 

Circumstances demand that Christians are well-informed about Islam, and this paper is an attempt to understand and condense a mass of available information.  The author hopes that understanding more about Islam will help Christians better expound their own faith, pray for government, evangelise amongst Muslims, and that if those things happen, this work will in some small way help to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, who alone is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
