News...

The House of Lords hosted a discussion recently, entitled 'The Social and Spiritual Implications of the Current Financial Crisis'. Steve McCreery (March Organiser), participating with other Christian leaders, noted among other issues, that a call for Repentance, personal, corporate and national was essential for turning this nation around".

We live in challenging yet interesting times...as much as the Church yearns for ‘times of refreshment’ and ’spiritual awakening’ we cannot ignore the reality that this nation is under judgment. None of us could fail to feel a mixture of sadness, frustration and anger as we look at what is becoming of our nation today. Britain is getting daily more brutal and godless while attacks on the Christian faith, the church and individual believers are increasing. It could be that the shaking of this nation, the end of the debt-fuelled paradise and free-market fundamentalism will bring about a new and desperate openness to the Gospel. BUT the big question is; Is the Church in it’s present state ready to be all that it should be?

IMMORALITY

Scriptures tells us that Judgement starts firstly within the household of God. (1Peter4:17) God requires much of those to whom He has entrusted much. We have failed on the whole in our lukewarmness, our compromise, our disunity and our silence in standing up for Biblical standards and values. Repentance is the only way forward because we have brought disgrace upon the name of Jesus and this is bringing judgement upon us. Repentance that must firstly be personal, an examination of self; secondly corporate, the church must lament for its loss of its first love and thirdly national, the Nation has dishonoured the Christian Faith.

This March is a territorial statement and a public declaration rolled into one. The children of Israel laid claim to Jericho before they blew the trumpets on the final day. The king of Moab would not allow the Israelites to march through his land. With a march, conducted reverently and in a display of unity among all believers , we declare a right and duty to walk across this ground, and we show those watching and our gracious Lord that our prayers are serious.

This is not 'identificational repentance'.(See the Frequently Asked Questions page) .

We shall be repenting of our own lack of witness and praying for the courage to end our silence even in this dark hour, recognising the need of repentance among our leaders and indeed from top to bottom throughout the U.K. Thus one could say that this call is as much a call 'for' repentance as well as 'of ' repentance.(see the ‘Why Repent’ page).

A good example to look at is Fiji where the churches have got on with the job.

William Booth (Founder of The Salvation Army) when asked to comment about the issues confronting Britain at the turn of the century said:-

  • There will be religion without the Holy Spirit
  • There will be Christianity without Christ
  • There will be forgiveness without repentance
  • There will be salvation without regeneration
  • There will be politics without God
  • Heaven without Hell!

CHURCHIANITY

It’s vital that the Church finds its voice again and puts the hope of Christ back at the centre of society.

“Now Glory be to God. By His mighty power at work within us, He is able to do infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope.” Eph3:20
